ESG discussions in Europe’s building sector

ESG discussions remain lively in Europe’s building sector thanks to the EU Taxonomy and regulation of sustainability-related financial disclosures. While the Taxonomy awaits final approval from the EU Commission, the path forward for disclosures is unclear. GBCI Europe and USGBC have been following developments closely and plan to provide a map of the LEED rating system compatible with both the Taxonomy and disclosure regulations. Since LEED is frequently used to establish requirements for green bonds, this exercise is crucial for all stakeholders involved. Approval of the Taxonomy by the EU Commission was expected in January 2021. An updated timeframe has not been communicated at this time.
