Purpose of the association | Goals
The German Green Building Association e.V. | GGBA was founded in October 2012. The association’s headquarters are in Berlin, the office is in Hamburg.
The GGBA stands for the promotion of sustainability in construction and the real estate industry. We are the national contact for all parties involved who have points of contact and need for information on international certification systems.
The GGBA, as an association independent of the system providers, enables an exchange of knowledge for the following rating standards:

GRESB®
LEED®
arcTM
WELLTM
These systems are managed by the Green Business Certification lnc. (GBCI) that also carries out the conformity audit as part of the certification. The system providers and the organisations responsible for the further development of the systems and benchmarks include i.a. the US Green Building Council (USGBC), the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI), GRESB, Parksmart and Arc Skoru.
In view of the holistic assessment of buildings, neighbourhoods and portfolios, the certification systems can make a positive contribution to the following aspects:
We use our network for the partnership-based cooperation of highly qualified experts such as engineers, investors, manufacturers and construction parties. We give advice on alternative verification possibilities for the market in the German-speaking countries, provide information on training materials, give lectures on the contents and methods, lead critical discussions regarding the costs and benefits of (building) certifications, organize specialist conferences and represent the association at national and international trade fairs and in the German Property Federation (ZIA).
